Passaic Valley's Around the World Videoconferencing Project

A unique video conferencing program was offered through the Passaic Valley High School in New Jersey. Inspired by a statement from Secretary of State Colin L. Powell, the purpose of this project is to bring students from different cultures and backgrounds together to promote global awareness and understanding. This was accomplished through a combination of live videoconferencing provided by the Access New Jersey Video Portal , real time e-mail and online chats with 15 countries around the world during one 24-hour period. See Video 2007 Archives

The program was organized with the cooperation of Passaic Valley Regional High School, Montclair State University, the Verizon Access NJ Portal, NJEDge.net, the staff of Congressman Bill Pascrell of NJ, MAGPI, and the U.S. House of Representatives Recording Studio.

Project Heart to Heart

Verizon joined forces with the United States Army Reserve to host Heart to Heart videoconferences, connecting local families with their loved ones serving in Baghdad, Iraq. Members of the 98th Division of the Alexander Hamilton United States Army Reserve center based in Lodi, New Jersey participated in a town hall meeting as well as private family videoconferences with military members stationed in Baghdad.

Through technology provided by the Verizon Access New Jersey program, these videoconferences are making it possible for military members stationed in places like Iraq, Egypt and Cuba to communicate in real time with their families.

Stories appeared in the Star Ledger, The Times, The Record, Hasbrouck Heights Observer, and the Trentonian newspapers as well as being featured on News 12, WB, CBS, ABC news.
